Background

MolyCop in Newcastle manufactures steel and exports train wheels, train axles, grinding media, round bar and square billets.

Scope of works

HCH were tasked with developing a new safe approach to a job that was previously undertaken using scaffolding and manual labour only. This posed significant risk of falling objects working in a confined space.

Challenges

Personnel were prohibited from entering from the top and access was restricted from the base due to the heat and potential for falling objects.

Working to a strict mandate for safety, HCH solved the seemingly impossible task of completing the project with no   top access and restricted bottom access, overcoming the risk of falling objects.

Solutions

With our deep expertise in water blasting, the HCH team applied innovative high-pressure water blasting technologies and experienced personnel to meet the challenge.
